Outdoor living Dunedin
Designed around Dunedin.
Dunedin homes are known for their character, hillside sites and views over the harbour and peninsula. Those same sites catch the wind, and coastal weather can change quickly — so decks and courtyards often feel exposed.
At Shade Smart, we design outdoor rooms that suit Dunedin's homes, from villas in Roslyn and Maori Hill to new builds in Mosgiel. Every system is custom made, from louvre roofs that shut out a passing shower to blinds that shelter a windy deck without hiding the view.
Louvre roofs Dunedin
A louvre roof gives Dunedin homes a covered outdoor room you can open to the sun or close against the rain — designed to suit character homes and modern builds alike.

Outdoor blinds Dunedin
Outdoor blinds shelter hillside decks from the wind while clear and mesh fabrics keep your harbour or city outlook.

Pergolas Dunedin
A Transroof pergola lets light through to your living rooms while giving you a dry, UV-protected patio — ideal for south-facing Dunedin sites that need every bit of light.

Retractable roofs Dunedin
For hospitality venues and larger outdoor areas, a retractable roof opens fully to the sky on fine days and closes when the weather turns.

Turn your deck into another room.
A properly designed louvre roof combined with outdoor blinds can turn an exposed deck or patio into a sheltered outdoor living area — somewhere to eat, relax and entertain long after the sun drops behind the Remarkables.

Reviews
Loved by homeowners across New Zealand.
“We had a custom built Louvre system installed over our decking. It was quite complex due to the size and the fact we have solar panels. Special brackets needed to be made and the guys did a great job working it all out. We are extremely happy with the end result. Excellent product that works well and looks fantastic.”
“We highly recommend Shade Smart precision engineering, quality products strong and attractive, first class Company providing attention, care, quality, value for money.”
“The guys were great to deal with, sharp price compared to the competition and the finished louvers came up great.”
“Great product and service, got my outdoor motorised blind working with google homes and has all the smart function with the wifi built-in blinds.”
“Their staff who installed the roof and blinds worked efficiently and professionally at all times. Two minor problems with electronics were solved almost immediately and we could not fault the follow up service.”
“Angus and team helped my parents build a pergola. Very nice and professional, would definitely recommend.”
